In the recent 25th anniversary programme of Jools Holland's 'Later ...' , they were working through the alphabet and when it got to 'G' the first thing that came up was 'Grime'.
I hadn't really appreciated what grime was until then (I'd heard of it of course, but assumed it was akin to 'grunge' or 'garage') but I quickly realised that it was basically the same as rap.
I usually record Jools Holland to watch it later (scuse pun!) so that I can spin through the bits that don't particularly appeal to me, which invariably includes anything that sounds remotely like rap music, as I just can't stand it .
I'm not looking for a reason to suddenly start liking rap music - that's never going to happen - but am I right in thinking that grime is merely rap by another name?
I didn't find the right solution from the internet.
