In this case, magic gold is a mixture of gold and ceramic. This mixture creates a unique material that wears and touches. It's smoother and less shiny than regular gold, which is a really good material -- the ceramic content means that magic gold is highly scratch resistant, with a hardness of about 1,000 vickers.



The problem is, when you hold a pruned, slimmer, more refined version of the classic fusion in your hand, it's clear that Hublot DNA may be more elastic and easier to transfer than you think. The swiss-made classic hybrid is a more refined, cleaner-cut version of the Big Bang, and while it differs from its iconic, more muscular counterpart, the market likes its design. Finally, for the rest of us, it's a Hublot product for those who love beauty but can't make it big, or who are looking for something less athletic. According to Raphael Nussbaumer, hublot's director of product and procurement, the Classic Fusion was not the key product at first, but it has come to define itself -- Nussbaumer estimates that about 30 per cent of its turnover comes from the Classic Fusion. Going back to the new blue model, it's not hard to see why. The 42mm shell (sizes range from 33mm to 45mm) is suitable for both men and women. This is a familiar porthole design, finished with a screw under the bezel, mixed with polished and satin polished king gold, which dials down the beaded factor just right amount.

The case combines perfectly with the bright, fresh denimy blue sunray dial to create an attractive hublot gold imitation. Small details, such as the blue case element (a nod to the idea of fusion), the polished index and the blue rubber-backed "crocodile belt" are icing on the cake. The classic fusion red, gold and blue may lack some of the bells, whistles and tie-ins of hublot's flashy new product, but that doesn't diminish the fact that it's a great watch, as it proves.
