Heart rate 165. Should I curtail?

Hi,
So I am approaching week 2 of getting back into shape. I have been working out nearly every day, doing about 12 minutes of warm-up cardio (bike, treadmill) then about 20 minutes of strength exercise (arms, core, legs) then wrap up with another 10 minutes of cardio. Yesterday I decided to try my nemesis, the elliptical. I have tried it in the past and it makes me too tired too quickly, my upper leg muscles just really ache from it. But I decided to give it another go.
Well about 2 minutes in I got into a good moderate/fast rhythm and I looked down and noticed my heart rate was at 165. Typically I have been targeting 130-145 for my cardio workout to not push myself too hard too quickly.
So should I stay away till I can shed some more pounds?
Please help.
I didn't find the right solution from the Internet.
